The symptoms of either when pooched are pretty much identical, especially for the setup where the TFI module is mounted to the Distributor rather than remotely on the fender well. This test is for that Distributor mounted set up. Although When either pooches. It's recommended to replace both. Also, they share the same power & ground circuits. . The vehicle's without an externally mounted ignition module are not covered. You can find this tutorial in Spanish here: Cómo Probar El Módulo De Encendido (Ford 4.6L Con Sistema DIS) (at: autotecnico-online.com). Symptoms Of A Bad Ignition Control Module. In my experience, the ignition control module fails in one of two ways. 2 - Disconnect the pin-in-line connector (SPOUT connector) near the TFI module. 3 - Start the engine and measure the voltage, at idle, from the SPOUT connector to the distributor base. The reading should equal battery voltage. 4 - If the result is. After that, we'll test the ignition coil switching signal that the module generates in action. From the results you get you'll be able to pinpoint the no-start problem to one of the following: The spark plug wires. The distributor cap. The ignition coil. The ignition control module (ICM). This is a new distributor and Motorcraft TFI module with MSD 6AL. 1. Used Holley TFI distributor harness, and traced all wires back to ECU, and all show continuity. 2. Disconnect harness connector, then remove two screws retaining TFI module to heatsink. Remove TFI module. INSTALLATION 1. Coat metal base plate of TFI ignition module with 1/32 inch thick layer of silicone grease. 2. Install module on heatsink, then torque two retaining screws to specification. 3.
